She's gone. After fighting her cancer, my aunt left us yesterday. It still hasn't really hit home and everybody's busy with funeral arrangments, but it was time. It wasn't even fair of us to ask God to keep her any longer. She needed to be at peace. I hope and pray she is - at peace - wherever she is.

I've got a long draft post that I've saved. I havn't finished it, but i will post it when I am. Right now, I'll write what's on my mind. I'm going home tomorrow. I know alot has changed. I hate sickness. I hate when other people are sick. I don't know what to do with the whole situation.
My aunt was diagnosed with cancer like 3 months ago. She's gone for some sessions of chemo but she's deteriorating relatively fast. The doctors aren't treating her for cancer anymore. She's too weak to have anymore chemo. All they can do is treat her for the pain. She used to live in her own house, now she goes between my house and her daughters house. She has to have a nursing aid because she can't stand up on her own most of the time anymore, she needs help to have a bath. In short, she's really sick. I don't know what to expect. She was fine and healthy when I left. I don't want to see her like that - in that state where she's so weak. Thats not the aunt that I know. I don't really know how to handle it all. It's a little scary...ok quite scary.

I was standing at the train station yesterday and my goodness do Finns spit! It's absolutely disgusting!! I stood there in my little corner and all around my you hear someone gather everything in their throat then hurl it out with a loud splat!!! So I really try not look where I'm stepping coz if i do, then i will take ages to get anywhere coz of avoiding all the splats of all different colors and density! eeeew!! Funny some people who've been here for a long time kinda get used to it. I can't the sound is the worst. Since everyone is doing it, its like a 6th sypmphony of finnish spitters!

just found this somewhere and thought it was funny in a sad way...

A study was conducted recently to determine the average crime Rate at international airports around the world. The study ordinary looking man standing in the airport terminal and reading a newspaper. He had an empty briefcase next to him, which he would ignore. Observers then recorded how long it would take for the briefcase to be snatched:

- In Brussels, Belgium the case was stolen within 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

- In Washington DC it was stolen within 3 minutes and 16 seconds.

- At Heathrow, London the briefcase was snatched in less than 2 minutes.

- In New York, the case was stolen within 1 minute and 5 seconds.

- In Los Angeles it took only 43 seconds before the case was snatched.

- In Nairobi the team conducting the study was robbed on the way to the airport and the briefcase stolen long before the test could commence

Lets get one thing straight. This is my blog, MY thoughts, MY feelings, I dont have to explain myself to anybody, its a way of unleashing what i need to, when I need to. Thats just how it its.

My part

Today is world aids day.....seeing that my mission in life is to make a difference, I figured I needed to do something. I'm not a billionare...yet, so I can't possibly donate a huge lumpsum of money to the cause, I needed to do something though. So I figured I'd make and sell red ribbons, the money I would donate to children in kenya who are affected or infected by aids...I'm yet to decide which organization to give to. I sold each for one euro. Not too much money, I mean that's just about the price of a candy bar or something. So despite having two exams tomorrow, I went around looking for enough ribbon of the right color and pins and made them last night, in time to sell them today. Given I could have done a better job of marketing and started the campaign earlies, like maybe have it on for the whole week, but I've been swamped with work...lousy excuse, but next year I shall do better. Its amazing how people don't even know what AIDS day is let alone that it was today. Apart from that, I have come across some interesting characters. This lady said...with a straight face on..."I dont need one, sorry"....Ok, first of all, what does she mean she doesnt need one? It's for a cause, I know you don't need one!!! Who the hell "needs" a ribbon for crying out loud? Secondly, why the hell apologize to me? Apologise to the children in need. Tell them that you didn't "need" a ribbon!!!! I mean honestly!!! You'd rather even tell me you don't have a euro on you!! Hm...that was number one....Now person number two doesn't believe in all this because aparently, if you get aids, thats your s**t! Deal with it. Oh, this person also said it with a straight face and was very serious about it. She didnt understand why I bothered!....ok, true that you harvest what you sow and you shouldnt just go around sleeping with everyone....AIDS is indeed a reality. But what about that woman who was raped? That child that was born with AIDS, that woman because she happens to be part of a certain culture is forced into marrying the wrong person (healthwise)? Is it their s**t to deal with? A big part of the spread of AIDS in africa is ignorance and lack of information, people need to be sensitised, educated about AIDS, it's here, its a reality and we have to deal with it. It just won't go away and it doesnt choose who to attack! It's impartial to race, social standing, tribe, etc.
So anyway, apart from coming across these.....uhm...interesting characters, I hope the little that I have collected will do some good out there.
